As the impasse over elections continued in Guyana, the assistant secretary-general of the Organization of American States (OAS), Albert Ramdin, paid a visit to Georgetown on 13 June where he expressed his concern over the lack of security in the country. After meeting various political leaders, civil society groups and members of the international community in the two-day visit, Ramdin said that the electoral commission (Gecom) needs to set a poll date as early as practicable, while political parties ought to have more dialogue to ensure a smooth elections process.
